waterwingsz, as per the acid download it found several programs for chdk for sx40,but i could not download any of them. All downloads failed. what is my next step?  Thanks!!

waterwingsz, this is the same site  and firmware vers # that i had downloaded for the cardtricks method  and the booting method  and i had problems with the shortcut control on both.  Back to square one here.!!   I"ll try it again and see what happens.(from hoerche site)  Why wouldn"t the acid method work and download the needed files?  Thanks!! on doing my research acid has worked for others?

As I already told you, if you see the CHDK splash screen, you have the right build for your camera firmware version.

Re-formatting your card and re-installing might help. Downloading the same file by a different method definitely will not.

waterwingz  and rayalp i finally downloaded the chdk program via the acid method  via the trunk download and it seemed to work ok. still  alittle slow when i hit the alt-shortcut key,but it works.   Can one suggest a good tutorial on how to use all the settings  in the chdk menu in detail. On you tube their are a few but they only go over the basics  and not the entire menu.  Thanks  for your help!!
