chdk loads but no menu A490

Advice, please. I have loaded CHDK on my A490 and get a splash screen but no CHDK menu.
The A490 has no display key or alt key (using play seems to operate as power on/off). As it is loaded in play mode, attempting to switch to record mode just turns the camera off first. Firmware is 100f, have tried 100e which just gives black screen. Expert advice would be most welcome. Thanks for any help.

According to the wiki, a SHORT press on Play is the Alt key while a long press does the normal Play function. See http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/A490

We should probably change the words "short press" to "short tap". People seem to want to press & hold the little buttons on their cameras to be sure the press has been accepted. Getting the <ALT> menu rather than shutting down is a matter of a few hundred milliseconds difference in hold time.
