When one if frustrated as heck, it's human nature to want to give up. If I wanted complexity I'd be using an Android phone not an iPhone
I didn't read the part about overrides until you mentioned it.
1 minute is fine.
I don't understand what they mean by Half Shutter + Up.
Well ... what can I say ?
Its one of the "features" of CHDK that many people seem to want - you press the shutter button half way down (as if you are setting exposure / focusing) and then press the "Up" position on the function wheel on the back of your camera. Its a "shortcut" method of turning on&off overrides - there are other shortcuts too.I find them completely unusable, confusing and prone to causing strange errors when you least expect them. I submitted a patch that disables them in recent versions.Just use the CHDK menus to set things up the way you want. Go to the Enhanced Photo Operations menu, and use the Tv override. The menu system in the development 1.2.0 version of CHDK is much easier to use by the way.

That's what I thought it meant, but I couldn't get the overrride to work. It is extremely difficult to do both things at the same time. You have to be very multidextrous to accomplish that. So I have to agree the feature is useless. I have no idea where the Enhanced Photo Operations menu is
Also I think I encountered a few bugs with the CHDK. When you turn on the camera you have to press the shutter button to get to the take a picture mode. Pressing the arrow or playback button doesn't do that. I found that very frustrating earlier today. That would require some retraining to get the hang of that, which I am now able to do.
However, the biggest bug, at least I think it is a bug is how the overexposure area (red) display works sometimes and most of the time not.
I found if I reinstalled STICK it works for a short bit.
And yes, the memory card is locked. Like you wrote earlier, it'slike magic that the SX50 can reformat the SDcard with the protection mode ON
Right now, I am giving up. Maybe I'll come back toward the end of the year and see what improvements have been made. Thanks for your patience and help.

That's a real pity.
Part of my "non entertainment" activities ie. work is to rewrite poorly written manuals, directives, processes, and procedures. Sounds like your stickies and instructions need my "expertise".
Then again, I am not a hacker and I can't afford to spend this much time to find out how to do a very basic simple task like increasing the shutter speed. Ultimately, the instructions were wrong or unclear.
Indeed, it's a hacker community much like XDA. Fortunately, people like you don't have the same bad attitude as they do there
I don't mind helping with a rewrite as long as I have the time and the info is correct to begin with (garbage in garbage out). But that doesn't seem to be the case here.
For example, I was able to find where the Enhanced Photo Operations menu is. You folks decided to use the <ALT> key or aka the print button function to gain access to it. Right off the top, when someone hovers over the <ALT> they should be able to see a link to what this really is. Personally, I never would've referred to the PRINT button as ALT, but whatever.
The instructions on how to enable 1 minute of long exposure doesn't work for me (Revision B). The screen images in the WIKI are not the same as on chdk for the Canon SX50.
This DISABLE override layout and all the other Adding a calendar and games to the camera makes me smfh.
I spent a good two, three hours, playing with the settings, rebooting, reinstalling Stick, copying the firmware last night.
Things do not need to be this complicated. I believe keeping things simple is more when it comes to applications and features.
