Hi,

Firstly, I'm still working my way through the wiki etc on the CHDK site, I can't seem to find an answer to this but if it's an obvious question, please forgive me!

I am looking at a A560 or A570 on eBay so that I can get started with CHDK. The FAQ page on the wiki has a list of cameras that are supported, it seems to specify a firmware version on the camera, is this because different versions of the same camera have different firmware and only some will work? Will I need to contact the sellers to determine whether the camera I buy has a compatible firmware?

I don't want to bid for a camera and end up with one that I can't use, any help on this would be much appreciated!

Hard to tell. Try to read the cameras' porting threads, and see whether anyone mentions a firmware revision which is not on the supported list.
Some older camera models with known unsupported fw variants: A580, S80

I personally think that all existing fw revisions are supported for the A570, A560 models (I don't remember anyone complaining about it).

If you contact the eBay vendor, ask them to email you a picture taken with the camera.  That way you confirm the camera works and you can use the ACID utility to determine its firmware version.
