I have an idea how to do this with the time lapse routines I've already written. There are no connections between the cameras required. That is, no usb cables .

Sure, I do that with SDM and no scripts required.
With the S95, after 30 minutes the mis-synch was just 0.4 msec.

Here are some stereo time-lapses a beta tester created :-

Hyper 3D Time-laps 0.5 sec. (Baseball etc)

3D clouds throughout the day (Remake version)

Ushiku Daibutsu Hyper 3D Time-laps

Are we allowed to know more about the problem, in other words why do we need all of these cameras to sync at the same time?

(Possibly unrelated, but cool none the less... and only recently posted... http://hackaday.com/2013/03/20/bullet-time-with-a-single-gopro/#more-96425 )

That is EXTREMELY recent !
I check that site every 15 minutes.

Thx guys - i'm having a beer now but will get back on track soon. If you look for something like "digital character creation service" it'll maybe show you the idea I aspire to...

OK, I see.

As these characters are essentially software-synthesised, I would not have thought that the image quality of the cameras was that important, within reason.

Unfortunately [to the best of my knowledge] Image quality is actually incredibly important together with global illumination - best results i've seen so far from around 80x550d's + 16xD600's  :o

That's to get to detailed skin pore level...in a human "extended arms" capture volume !

Well, you have  not said what degree of synch you need and why.

There is no need for darkened rooms, just press the USB switch and then release.
SDM multicam shooters use gentSTEREO-repeatSDM:-

http://www.gentles.ltd.uk/gentstereo/sdm.htm

You will need six.

A distributed power supply required, can give further details.

Just so that I am not repeating information here, did you join the Yahoo SDM Group earlier today ?

I ask because the person applying said he was interested in photogrammetry.

For the benefit of anyone new to this forum,  you can do the same things with CHDK as SDM in these applications  (and on more camera models with a more advanced programming language).

Thanks Microfungy.

Its [generally] unwise to reply with alcohol taken, so apologies - I will probably need to revisit this - especially when I have zero photography experience:

What I do know is that any movement is bad for photogrammetry, hence [my thought] that flash 100microsec "synch" [from a dark room] is important.

If chdk can manage to get all the shutters open in a time period [from the ambient lights going out] that will not adversely affect the behavoiur of the subject - before the predetermined flash time - then tight chdk synch is [I think] unimportant.

James [at Gentles] has previously reported [for a hundred cams]:
"There is a high chance that it doesn't have the drive to trigger this many"

That may be related to your comment:

"A distributed power supply required, can give further details."

Appreciate that !

[but i'm not sure how this all hangs together ??]

- however, I want to use [if possible] an ambient light sensor to both switch the usb [and hubs] to 0V and that same sensor providing an input to the arduino controller [to control studio flash AND potentially the remote trigger shutters of multiple DSLR's].

I currently have no idea if that is possible - but would like to try and find out.

Other: I have recently reviewed the SDM Yahoo group but not made any request to join.

Anyway, you can probably appreciate that I will need help to see "the wood from the trees" - please be patient - I trust some of this is coherent  ;)
