I've started cleaning up the User Written Scripts wikia page a bit.  As a first step,  I moved it out from under the uBASIC Scripting page into the main wiki as it's just as much about Lua scripts as uBASIC.

But when I started looking at what was actually linked there,  I realized it was likely to frustrate new users as most of the links were to old scripts they would not be able to use.  And many of the best recent scripts were not linked there at all.

So one change I would like to proceed with is to separate what I will call universal scripts (ones that will run on any CHDK camera) from camera specific scripts (hard coded key presses / propset values etc).  A simple way to do this would be to reorder each scripting section into two subsections labelled Universal & Camera Specific.   A more contentious way would be to move older non-generic scripts to a sub-page.

Maybe one example script showing how to setup Canon functions with key presses in its own section would suffice ?

I've also started copying what I consider good scripts from the forum to their own wiki pages (with a link back to the forum).   Not sure if this is better than just linking to the forum directly but it feels more permanent.  With all due respect to acseven and the great job he has done providing this service for free for all these years,  things have occasionally disappeared.

All of which tends to make me the default self declared editor of wiki script links at the moment - a position I'm not entirely comfortable with.   But I guess, using whatever advice I'm given here, I will proceed carefully until somebody says "stop".

For example.  do we really need links to 22 intervalometer scripts - about half of which seem to want to claim the title of being the most "accurate"?

I'm all for keeping the old, obsolete scripts off the main page, or moving them to the bottom. We should present what is going to be most useful to users, not a historical archive of every script written.

It might be worth renaming the page to something like "Suggested scripts" or "Useful scripts" or something like that.

If we do want to maintain a page with ever script that has ever been posted, that could be a separate page. Or it could just be done with a category. In either case, it could be linked from the main page.

Don't forget what the H stands for.

I have created a page for ports that are not available from the autobuild server. There may be some ports missing from the list (only checked camera_list.csv). Suggestions are welcome (about the content and the title). Should we create fresh test builds for these?
If it looks OK, I'll make it "public" (actually, anybody is permitted to make a public page from it).

I like it.

Not sure about what to call it. "CHDK Test releases" makes it sound like you can find all the test releases there. I'd like to call it something like "Test releases not available in autobuilds" but that seems a bit long for page name.

Content of http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Template:Supported_Cameras  could be generated from camera_list.csv
I wrote a semi bot to generate page and upload using command line. It requires bash, curl and awk.
Files are here

By now, results are uploaded to: http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/User:Nafraf/csv2wiki
green/black colors are used to mark versions available/unavailable in autobuild server.

Cameras are sorted following csv file order, It is different from current Suported_Cameras order page.
I can try to change order in script, or should we change csv list order?

Any other suggestion?

I don't think there is any magic to the current order in the Supported Cameras page.  Changing it should not break anything so I would not worry too much about that.

As a comment,   the I found the sort order on your page for then ixusnnn_sdnnn camera a little hard to follow. I eventually could see how you did it but at first it was a bit hard for me to find my camera.  Maybe sorting on the ixus part would make more sense?

Also,  can you sort number as numbers rather than alphabetically or is that hard to do?  ( i.e.  the A4000 should be the last camera in the A series list).

Good work. Is this meant to generate http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Template:Supported_Cameras ?

In addition to ww's suggestions:
The fw revisions not in autobuild could be grey instead of black (YMMV), and all link to the test releases page.
The revisions available in autobuild could all link to the downloads page. I'm talking about the green revision numbers, not the camera names.
The title should probably reflect that some of the listed ports do not appear in autobuild at all (A2100, S80, ...).

To ease our work, we could introduce a "category" that lists pages that need attention when there's a change in the supported camera list.

I'll make it public with the longer name, it can then be edited when needed.

Links implemented.
gray links are pointing to User:Srsa_4c/CHDK_Test_Releases.
green links to Downloads

Any other suggestions? what about comments at the end? are they right?

In some cases, camera name in csv file does not match with wikia page name (sx50, sx40), it can be solved redirecting pages. If more bots are required, maybe it is better to have names matching.

Nice job; but seems to be missing some information:
- SX30 has 6 ports, only three are showing. SX230 has 5 ports, only three showing
- Alpha / Beta status only showing on S95 & G11.

The camera names in the .csv / wiki mismatch could also be solved by adding another column in the .csv file with the alternate camera name.

Phil.
CHDK ports:
  sx30is (1.00c, 1.00h, 1.00l, 1.00n & 1.00p)
  g12 (1.00c, 1.00e, 1.00f & 1.00g)
  sx130is (1.01d & 1.01f)
  ixus310hs (1.00a & 1.01a)
  sx40hs (1.00d, 1.00g & 1.00i)
  g1x (1.00e, 1.00f & 1.00g)
  g5x (1.00c, 1.01a, 1.01b)
  g7x2 (1.01a, 1.01b, 1.10b)

Thanks Phil.
I forgot the equivalent ports.  I'll fix it.
Code: [Select]
sx30,100l,,100m,
sx230hs,101b,BETA,101c:101e,
a3200,100a,ALPHA,100c,

I'm not showing Alpha/Beta status, only green=available, gray=SKIP_AUTOBUILD.
I can add yellow=Alpha|Beta  ???

OK, I think that it is a good solution.
