The standard Lua io functions should work fine, aside from the differences mentioned at http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Lua#Differences_from_standard_lua_iolib. If they don't, there is something wrong with the port or you are doing something wrong. You can use the llibtst.lua script in the test directory to verify that these functions are working correctly.
