Turn Off LCD Scripting - S95 Camera

The Question:
Can someone give me some good options as to what I can do to turn off the LCD display on my S95 when doing long time-lapse? I currently load a script called 'COUNTER.BAS' (2.7K) and it works great, it is just I'd really like to take longer sets of pictures and I think if the LCD if off after a few pictures, then that could work good. I know little of scripting but reading and learning.

Thanks for any help!

My Background:
Hi, I've had a S95 for a year and just found out about CHDK, so cool! I love time-lapse style photos/videos, but my batteries die much soon than I'd like. I've read a bunch of posts for time-lapse for the S95 and think turning off the monitor would really help. What I've noticed with many posts is that they don't always end with a success sorry and/or are several years old. Anyone have something fresh and conclusive?

Hi,

I loaded the script on to my s95 found here.....

http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Battery_Intervalometer

.... and called it battery.lua

It looked good on the screen, I could see all the options, but when I ran it, it reported

*** STARTED ***
:1: unexpected symbol near 'char(239)'
PRESS SHUTTER TO CLOSE

.......any idea what went wrong?

Hi - I figured it out myself. Was saving the code at UTF-8 instead of ANSI, so learning little by little....

Set for 'Turn Display Off' starts saying 'blanking display' but then says 'unable to blank the display'.
Any idea why this wont work?

Set for 'Turn Backlight Off' but I don't see any difference, what should I expect?

For the most part,  only Canon P&S cameras with an OVF (optical view finder) can actually have their display turned fully off.  The S95 does not have an OVF.

The LCD backlight should turn off when the script runs.  Each time it takes a shot,  the backlight gets turned on again by the camera,  so that setting will make it turn off again.

True, but it does have a shortcut button which can be set to put the camera into sleep.
The script could check for platform IDs which are known to have this feature ( get_buildinfo() ).

I recall that discussion - http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=9049.msg97241#msg97241

I don't think I asked how to get the camera out of sleep mode?  Press any button?

I assume somebody would first actually have to make a list of which cameras could do this.

I think so. You could try it on your G10 (assuming it's one of those cameras).

Or just press the shortcut button, it won't react anyway if the camera doesn't have one. Some cameras have similar functionality on their print button though...
