CHDK on SD400???

Hi,

I recently stumbled upon CHDK and was blown away by the whole idea, which I find incredible.

I've got an SD400 with the 1.01A firmware, but I can see there is currently no compiled CHDK support for it.

However, since the SD500 has the same firmware could CHDK built for the SD500 1.01a work with the SD400?

I've tried this and get 'Update file error'.

Many Thanks.

I think it won't work, but you can also make your card bootable (bootable.exe), lock it and start up the camera.
Either it works or the cam does hang and you have to port for sd400, too.
And version number of an other cam can be identical, but firmware is almost sure something else.

I saw this post from GrAnd in another thread where it was said that the official firmware updates from Canon for the SD500 & SD400 were identical, which got me thinking I could use the SD500 builds on the '400...

Thanks, I'll try making the card bootable with the sd500 build as you suggest...

... No joy.  Camera shows no sign of life and needs the battery removed to reset.

Could it be that it is the same canon firmware, but the camera doesn't recognise the 'update' because the P-ID stored in the fir is that of the SD500, which is different from the sd400?

I'm not a coder, but if this is the case would it be worth trying to compile for the sd500 with the PlatformID set to 12558 (P-ID of the sd400)

Anyone out there fancy a go?   I don't even seem to be able to get gcc installed properly in XP to compile using the defaults following the instructions here http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Compiling_CHDK_under_Windows

and using the trunk from here https://tools.assembla.com/chdk/browser/trunk

If anyone has any further hints/ideas they'd be appreciated!

AFAIK the Ixus 400 still uses the older DIGIC I Processor, which uses a completely different architecture and OS compared to the DIGIC II cameras, so CHDK cannot be ported to it.

I have the Powershot SD400 from the US, which is the Digital IXUS 50 in Europe.

I've still got the original box which proudly boasts the DIG!C II logo...

Apologies for the confusion.

You're all trying to get me confused: isn't that thread about SD400 so ixus50?

BTW.

Did you restart? Windows likes this!
Path inserted?
Then it should work at once!

Right, cleaning my (nonexistent) glasses helped to read correctly: The SD400, of course, uses DIGIC II ;-)

Maybe we should start a petition, to ask CANON to simplify and globalize their product names ;-))

This is misunderstanding. (Did I say that my English is bad? :D) I meant not SD400 & SD500 are the same. I said that SDxxx (USA name) and corresponding IXUSyyy (Europe name) have the same firmware.

That makes this clearer, so I'm kinda1 sorted again. :D
