Hello,
I just wanted to run the CHDK firmware on my SX130IS.

FW camera: 1.0.1.0
Memory card: 2 Gb, formatted with FAT16

I took all three different versions available on the download page, but non works.

My procedure: Loading the files from the downloaded ZIP file on the root of the memory card, memory card into camera, PLAY button, MENU, Firm Update ..., Update firmware version 1.0.1.0 --> 1.1.0.0, OK

Then nothing more happens. The screen stays black and the camera cannot be switched on neither in PLAY nor normally. Only after removing memory card and putting it back into the camera, the camera works like normal.

What am I doing wrong?

your firmware is definitely NOT 1.0.1.0 - that's not a valid version.

To find out the real version, use my ACID app - see http://www.zenoshrdlu.com/acid/acid.html

What you are seeing is almost always a result of loading the wrong firmware version.  As you tried all three available CHDK releases,  this means your camera has a firmware version not supported by CHDK.  However,  the SX130 is one of the few Canon P&S camera that actually have a real Canon firmware update available for some firmware versions.  Check here to see if that applies to your camera :  http://web.canon.jp/imaging/dcp/firm-e/pssx130is/index.html

HI,

thank you very much for the fast replies. Unfortunately the WICKS software doesn't run here at work because it needs admin rights. But will try it at home.

I checked again in the camera. Its firmware version shows 1.01C. Here the screen waht the camera tells me:

Canon PowerShot SX 130 IS
P-ID: 3211 PAL D

Firmware Ver GM1.01C (1.0.1.0)
Adj Ver. 009.002
Serial No:093061009663

So at least the C version should work. But it doesn't.

Very interesting that we have also a SX 130 IS here at work and it doesn't show this screen with all the firmware and serial number infos.

Its worked for many other people so the CHDK stuff is correct.  Try the STICK utility when you get somewhere that allows you to run it.

Hi all,

very strange to report:

1. Took the SX 130 IS from work (FW 1.01F)
2. Copied files from 1.01F ZIP download from CHDK website to the SD card
3. Tried to make firmware update --> black screen
4. Reset the camera to default settings
5. Again tried to start CHDK --> success!

6. Took private SX 130 IS
7. Deleted the files from 1.01F and copied files from 1.01C to the SD card
8. FW update on private camera --> success!

I have absolutely no idea what made CHDK running now on my camera. I didn't any reset to default on my private camera.

Anyway it seems to work now!
