Thanks as always for you supporting the forum. Update seems to be working well so far. FWIW, I noticed the quick reply box is gone, but I don't really miss it.
This bandwidth usage is along high cpu load, which is causing some server overload.
Do you have access to the web server logs from the time period in question?

In my experience, this kind of thing is frequently caused by ill behaved bots or vulnerability scanners that rapidly crawl every page on a site. Especially buggy ones that get stuck and request the same pages over and over  ::)
Don't forget what the H stands for.

Also,  it seems there are now "related links" that appear at the bottom of the page?  Not sure if this is a forum feature that eats processor CPUs but its mostly giving me links from six years ago so if you can disable that and it saves cycles it would be fine with me.
I added that on purpose. In fact, even though I optimized some parts of the forum it makes no sense to cripple usability just to making it run on this host. So my line of thinking was to repair everything, get all the features back, and add some new ones (the related topics is an example of this). If it copes, fine - it will hold for some time. If not, then I might as well switch in the near time.

The quick reply box is disabled because of a stupid css error I have to fix. It's easy, but I didn't have the patience. Later I'll add it, because it's better for server performance to use it instead of loading another page.

As for your suggestion, that was most likely something like that. We did have a spam attack right about the 16th, so that could also have triggered or justify it entirely. Anyway, we're running now on CloudFlare, which I hope that takes care of that, with few as possible false positives.

Cheers!

The 'back' button is broken in Chrome and IE10 (probably others as well).

Clicking back refreshes the current page instead of returning to the last page.

See if it's better now, but it's best to test in a few hours just to make sure the caching is behaving regularly.

Slightly better.

Clicking back once stays on the same page (without a refresh) and then clicking back a second time returns to the previous page.

There is also a problem with the ad banners.
These don't show initially, then suddenly appear after the page is loaded which pushes the rest of the page content down. It's very annoying when the page content jumps like that.

It's seems that these issues are coming from cloudflare.com scripts. If I disable cloudflare.com in Firefox (with NoScript) the problems stop.

I'm using it on Chrome, the back button seems to work ok now. Still having problems?

Please, switch off the popup window for the cookies message. Make the forum really readable for non members.

It seems, there is also an issue with some advertisements. The browser searches endless for a connection.

I disabled a feature on CloudFlare that should be responsible for some of the javascript hassles, including the ads. If correct, it should be better in a few hours, after it refreshes the cache.
