As far as I know, no one has started work on this camera. If someone had, it would be in the development forum (either general or the dryos subform)

It also appears there's no firmware dump yet. If you want, you can try to make one using http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Canon_Basic/Scripts/Dumper but that doesn't mean someone will start development.

No chance.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

this camera desperately needs chdk. The jpegs are a mosiac but i know from the sx40/50 and sx260 that with raw you can get a clean jpeg.

I wish I knew how to do the firmware dump myself so that I could perhaps get the ball rolling. I would really love to get CHDK for this camera. It's still not on the development page though :(

It would even be good to just modify the SX260 version so that it handshakes and tries to run on the SX280 hehe

Detailed instructions are here - no programming or computer skills required : http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Canon_Basic/Scripts/Dumper

This link was posted above by reyalp but I assume you did not click on it.  You really do need to read this :
link> CHDK FAQ : My camera isn't ported yet

Feel free to try. But when reyalp says "no chance",  you can safely assume that he is right.

Thank you for the reply waterwigz:

I read that instruction set but missed the fact there is software to use that code with. I will try to do it this week.

After that, I would definitely be willing to help a developer test it. The frequent crashes, documentation and all! Hopefully someone would be able to pick it up and help after step 1 above.

There are no guarantees that someone will step forward to help with a port but I can say that it NEVER happens unless a camera owner steps forward willing to devote time to some painful & brutal testing (and supply a real email address for "real time" communications).  Testing can take at least two hours a day over several weeks.  And yes - you could "brick" your camera.  I've done three ports from scratch and it has not happened, but I was willing to lose each of the cameras if it came to that.

Doing a firmware dump is a good way to get the very small pool of capable developers interested in your camera.

(The excellent and incredibly patient people that have helped with the various live & blind ports done so far know who you are.  Thank you once again for sticking with it!)

Yeah, I'm ok knowing that it's not guaranteed to be worked on. Regarding bricking, that's just a normal disclaimer right? I mean, the firmware loading process doesn't modify the camera firmware so bricking should be a very unlikely event?

Dumping the firmware via the link I gave you has a lower risk level than driving to work most days (IMHO).  Life has no guarantees - and no refunds.  But the Canon BASIC firmware dump stuff is pretty much as "low risk" as it gets.

Testing new code for a CHDK port to a new camera is another conversation, OTOH.

FWIW, I put my somewhat expensive cams on the line as I learned about porting (prior to the new tools - philmoz has done amazing work).  So far all four different cams are doing fun things for me.  Make your choices as your risk tolerance allows.
