SX50 HS HD Video fps

I did some searching around the forum but could not find a definitive answer to my question. I am a noob here so forgive me if my questions are of ignorance.

Out of the box the SX50 can shoot video @
480p @ 1fps - 1080p @ 24fps - 720p @ 3fps - 320 x 240 @ 240fps -720p @ 30fps - 480p @ 30fps - 480p @ 6fps - 480p @ 3fps - 720p @ 1fps - 720p @ 6fps - 480p @ 120fps
Is the resolution to frame rate a hardware or firmware constraint? Since these options exist, would be it be possible to break that containment and shoot 1080p @ ≥ 120fps?

Any thoughts, Solutions or even objections (as long as they are explained) would be greatly appreciated!

Its typically a hardware issue -  the DSP in the camera can't process sensor information that fast.

The camera business is very competitive and companies compete on specs.  If Canon could get the SX50 to do 1080p @ 120fps  I think its safe to say they would.    So its seems unlikely that CHDK will be able to trick the camera into doing something the Canon engineers could not figure out.
