waldo, wikia is updated...

My opinion, too - and there are many other satisfied SD400 users...
Compared to my new SD870 the old 5MP Ixus 50 has some vantages:
- starts CHDK in 1/2 a second, SD870 needs ~ 3 seconds
- very good handling, the robust keys are much better
- full metal, slim - many plastics on SD870

The only bad thing on SD400 is the very short battery lifetime...

For SD870 CHDK port is not 100% complete (in comparison with A720, A650, S5IS) - missed 'InitFileModules' task redefinition. This cause 3 seconds CHDK startup delay (and no multipartition support).

Thanks fe50 for completing the port and including it in the official release of the Allbest trunk files.

Thanks to everyone else for testing the ported files and posting comments.

hi !
firstly many thanks for the dev. your CHDK is truly amazing. im glad i stumbled upon it while searching for how to hack my SD400

anyways i was just wondering what is the difference between the 101a and 101b releases?

i have 101B and i dont have any problems so far and i LOOOVE the zoom feature in video mode.
[ps canon says i have the latest firmware for my cam according to my serial number - ..if that has any relevance to my question]

Hello & welcome djcycosis !

The CHDK version must always fit to the cameras firmware version, in CHDK functionality there's no difference between them.

If you mean the difference in the original Canon firmware: sometimes Canon release a firmware update without any comment, often newer cameras have a newer firmware version but no (documented) changes.

For the SD400 Canon released a firmware update in japan, seems that there was an error in the japan language menu characters...

...Canon almost say this, only if there's a (very big) problem in a firmware Canon publishes a firmware update...

thanks for replying fe50!
i just did the ver.req and it says:

Canon PowerShot SD400
P-ID: 310E NT

Firmware Ver GM1.01B
E16
Mar 29 2005   21:16:07

so im assuming im using the right CHDK since i got CHDK 1.01B.

however i was wondering what E16 meant. i get it every time i try to record 60fps video. it is not CHDK's fault though since i got it before i even knew about CHDK. can you shed some light on this for me?

and also one more question about optical zoom in video mode - whenever i zoom its shows bright blue letters at the top center and i think its still digital zoom and not optical. when i turn off digital zoom, i can't zoom at all even though i've turned on optical zoom for video in CHDK. can you clear this up for me please? thanks in advance

On all Canon digital compact cameras the error code E16 means that something is wrong with the (lens) mechanism, normally this error code is shown if it cannot contract/extract or focus.

You have (as i, too  ;) ) also the E16 message in your firmware information, so at least once there was a problem with the mechanic.
I don't know why the code E16 appears while video recording, perhaps there's an problem with the RAM or your SD card (speed / timing ?)...

I heard that sometimes after removing the batterys for 3-4 hours the E16 / E18 errors may disappear, if there's not a real mechanical problem...

Yep, the blue letters are the Canons digital zoom OSD display.

Currently the optical zoom in video mode is working only with a script, i've attached a sample test script to this post (file "optzoom.bas").

Load the script, start it with the shutter button & use the zoom rocker, test the wheel buttons for focus etc. also - look to the script code for more details, i've used it only for some short functionality tests, it is not optimized for the SD400...

And also have fun with the good old Ixus 50  ::)
