SD CARD SIZE

I have on order a Canon A720.

While I am waiting for it, I want to order some cards   I see a nice sandisk SDHD card class 6 at 4 gig with a reader and also a little key chain carry case from Newegg.  vry nice   SanDisk Extreme III 4GB Secure Digital High-Capacity (SD/SDHC) Flash Card W/Reader Model SDSDRX3-4096-A21 - Retail   20/mb sec

is this overkill and not suitable?  said to work extremely well in the a720

now I read on a forum that with chdk with that camera I only can use a 2 gig SD card?

I think I need to put the file on the card so it boots up when the camera turns on.   Do I need a reader to load the files onto the card?

Hopefully this reader will work with some sd 2 gig cards.

can I use 2 gig SDHD or just SD?

wonder how many raws will fit on the 2 gig sd card

would appreciate any buying advice on cards  I would like the best speed I can get but if I have to buy just plain sd cards for CHDk thats fine.

I am not sure of the formatting routine , can I do this from the computer with a reader?  my computer runs WinXP pro and I am set up for NTFS

Thanks everyone for any advice.

That's not correct. You can use whole 4GB formatted as FAT16. Even larger cards can be used (there is a bit complex way to prepare them).

Do I need a reader to load the files onto the card?

It's the recommended way.

You can use any type. It doesn't matter from CHDK POV.

You enumerated the most suitable things to do it. :)

Thanks for the replies.  I am sure I will have more questions when I get the card.

Wow, such fancy English, pretty soon you'll be teaching it at Harvard University. :)

It's technical (programming?) English. :) Did I say something in an incorrect way? :D

Incorrect? No, not at all. It's just the way you phrased it, sounded so "proper" and succinct. I know you don't feel real secure in your English so I thought I'd point out that you're using better English than most people that speak it all their lives. :)

Did someone call me? Oh nevermind....

I do agree with Barney on this case. It has come to my attention that a large number of the North American populace inhabiting the USA region will usually display a sub-standard language, both written and spoken.

On the topic at hand, I have a question: Would you rather have ONE 4Gb card, or TWO 2Gb cards, if the price were the same?

Having two cards draws it's own advantages (crash redundancy, parallel processing, multiple intended uses).
