"Simple" mode for example won't show the "firmware update" menu entry.
My A1200 is a close cousin to the A2200 - a similar camera released on the same day. There is no "Simple' mode but it does have an "Easy" mode. I'm guessing that's the same thing? (Possibly a regional variation in text usage?)
With "Easy" mode, only a few of the camera buttons actually do anything. In Playback you use the left & right arrow buttons to scroll saved pictures and the Func/Set to run a slide show. In Shooting only the flash enable /disable button works. It pretty much reduced the camera to the digital equivalent of a
Kodak Instamatic The Menu button does nothing in either mode, so there is no way to see if a "Firmware Update" menu item exists.
I was thinking we might need to update the wiki instructions for "preparing your SD card" to discuss "Easy/Simple" mode. But give the above description, I think it should be obvious enough that you can't use the "Firmware Update" method in Easy mode. (SD card lock booting still works with the mode dial in Easy mode position and the <ALT> key still functions - which I guess is to be expected give where those functions are hacked into the booting process)
