1. Isn't any subversion client already available on your Mac, or at least downloadable? You can just use the commandline client to fetch the current repository, that's the easiest method. Any other method would require someone else downloading it, tarring it up and sending it to you.. and you won't be able to easily fetch changes (command: svn up, just like that). If you have (or can obtain) the commandline svn client, all you have to do is
svn co https://tools.assembla.com/svn/chdk/trunk chdk-trunk
and you'll have the entire repository fetched into the directory 'chdk-trunk'. You won't have to learn anything fancy to do that. I (or some other developer) can check in your changes if that's needed, you just have to send your changed files then.

2. Nobody as of yet. I might give it a go if I get really bored in the next days, but I think I should prepare for another exam instead (in two weeks).

3. :)

Got it loaded.  Works great.  Am now learning the word "Raw" good grief.

It's said to be a #99 build by "Allbest" 4/9 01:09:18.

Good luck!  Working pretty good for me but I'm a *total* newbie at this.  I'm very intrigued now as to what hooks there are etc. maybe I'll divvy up some time to get involved.

Is the 1.01a version in svn?

I just can't seem to get this to work. I've got a 2GB stick, that I've made bootable using Linux, following the instructions on the wiki and copied the binary. I enable the lock and start up my camera and just get the old firmware which complains that the card is locked. What am I doing wrong?

I did, from Windows CLI, the following:

1.  Mount the SD card with a reader.  This will create another drive letter.  If you have a camera that can be used as a reader (the S5IS cannot), use if you must.
2.  Format the card!  For example, my card mounted as drive "F", so I typed: "format F: /FS:FAT"
3.  Copy bootable.exe to the card.  You can find bootable.exe via the Wiki.
4.  Change to the F: drive (or whatever it happens to be on yours).
5.  Type "bootable F:"
6.  When it asks "Are you Sure <Y/N>", answer Yes
7.  It will finish without any error messages.
8.  Copy the CHDK BOOTDISK.IMG file to the card.
9.  Lock the card.
10.  Insert the card into your S5IS.
11.  Turn it on.
12.  Learn to use it!  Fun!

Looking at my firmware info, it  is /almost/ identical to the 1.01a information at S5IS - CHDK Wiki. The only difference is that NT is replaced with PAL. Does this matter?

Secondly, while editing the boot sector, is the "DISKBOOT" case sensitive? Linux shows me all files and directories in the partition in lower-case, but I just assume that's because FAT16 is case-insensitive.

<slaps forehead>

It's "BOOTDISK" not "DISKBOOT". :(
