The code used to speed up the clock was a quick & dirty hack.
as I discovered, i thought it was a multiplier or maybe that hours became seconds, but no such luck ;)

thanks, but it's ok. don't spend time on making reboot work per hour.

I will test it some more by setting the clock to 23:30 a few times. the reboot seems stable enough.
So I want to see if it still works with a ton of pictures on the card and some other variations of possible disturbances.
and something seems to have changed by the slower boot of CHDK...I have not noticed the lens shift anymore when set in CF's custom mode without setting it in UI after reboot since reyalp changed the startup time to 10 seconds...however it still does that lens shift when zoom is only set in UI.

I've created a new intervalometer script that has a core based on UI.

Hi

I have Ultimate Intervalometer running v4.8 on a Canon IXUS. It has ben running now for several months, working just fine, however recently I noticed, when checking the status of it, that it tends to zoom in without no reason.
I looked at the images recorded, and think that it might occur when the Intervalometer does the 3 days default reboot. I have checked the parameter "reset zoom" which is at 0% (I assume that is the widest viewing angle, and 100% means fully zoomed in)

Have you any suggestions here?

-Thomas

It is something that happens often after reboot with cams that have focus set @ infinity in combination with zoom set on anything but off.

Does your cam have a custom setting?
Then you can save you zoom setting there to solve this.
if you do not need the zoom, set it to off.

And, why, might I ask do you want to reboot every 3 days? it seems a bit much.

it tends to zoom in without no reason.
Example "normal" and "zoomed" pictures with full exif would help.
Does your cam have a custom setting?
Ixus cameras offer no custom settings.

the zoom change occurs just before it takes a shot and is ready by the time the shot is made, making me conclude the lens is still moving when the picture is taken.
it is visible in pictures but does not reflect anything in the log or EXIF data, because standard zoom steps are not able to show these kind of small changes.

btw. if you want to experience that problem for yourself, put the script in debug and set zoom, focus@infinity and reboot on next day...it will happen in a few minutes...
let it run for a while, it might take more than one reboot before it actually happens in debug...Put review on 2 seconds or something so you instantly see the difference between image and set zoom position.

I don't think so, when focus@infinity is set, it should not refocus between shots, but only be set once.
since the zoom is also supposed to be set only once it should not zoom either between shots.

but zoom/focus DURING a shot is definately unwanted behaviour, the reboot is messing up timing or something is done too early or late. (prior and after the shot system is back at set zoom position)

this problem does not occur if you only set focus@infinity in the script and set zoom position by hand before activating the script (and also does not happen when using custom mode in CF to set the zoom every time it boots)

How many of your cameras do this?
If it's only the s95, try various image stabilizer settings. That's another lens that can possibly move.

I've tested this with A480, A490, S95 and M10.....with the ixus of Toonamos, that leaves only the SX and G series as untested
on all my cams, if available, IS is off by default, since i mostly use a tripod.
haven't checked it on my S110, but i'm guessing it too has this problem.
as far as i can tell it is related to how the reboot functions, not something that can be fixed in UI.

Maybe that should be a new post to identify all problems related to reboot. It might give us the insight we need to pin this down.
personally I would have 3 issues of the top off my head:
- rebooting from large FAT cards need a longer startup time before CHDK starts(as made for me by reyalp for my S95 with a 10second delay, all my s95's use this nowadays if i load a dual partition sd card, even a 8GB....while testing SD cards at booting exFAT appeared 10X as fast as FAT32)
- zoom shift after reboot when zoom is set in script (as mentioned here above)
- dropping of frames after a reboot (haven't pursued the specific circumstances further, but have seen this on 64Gb and larger cards with the S95 and M10..never had any need to reboot on smaller cards)
