Can't delete phgotos so as to have more free space on card.

I have a Canon Powershot SX40HS. My CHDK info is as follows:
Build information:
   CHDK version 1.1.0-2182
   Revision : 0
   Date: 09-29-2012
   Time: 16:54:54
   Camera: sx40hs
   FW Version: 100i
   Compiler: GCC 4.4.3
Memory information:
   Free mem: 2310464 bytes
   CHDK size: 227120 bytes
   Loaded at 0x198C30
Today, noting that my 32 GB mem card is almost full, packed with Videos, jpg and CRW_DNG files,
I copied the DCIM folder to my PC (running Ubuntu Studio 13.04 raring 64 bit); Then, trying, unsuccessfully to delete the pics, I put the card in my camera and deleted all the photos via the regular factory menu. I double checked to see if that worked, and sure enough I can't playback any photos bacause they apparently were successfully deleted. I took 2 shots becauase in the back of my brain I vaguely remembered something about that being necessary before shutting off the camera for some reason.

Then I put the card back on display in my PC and all the stuff I thought was deleted still shows up as it was originally. I am stumped! Leo (aka leokins)

Have you maybe tried to check in CHDK filebrowser whether the files are still present on SD card? Did you try to remove the files from PC?

Did you move sd-card's lock switch to unlocked position before put sd-card in your PC? :)

@nafraf:
I think you have probably answered my question. So, before I try that (unlock switch on the card) which files should I delete and which ones should I leave alone?
My goal is to delete all jpegs and raw pics; Also, if I do that, will any exif data, or other files/data which pertain to my deleted pics be removed too? I don't see any need to retain all the extra data related to the photos which I want to delete, since that data is now saved on my PC, via my Shotwell program.

You can safely delete anything or everthing in the DCIM directory on your SD card if you wish to remove picture files (.jpg ,  .raw , .dng)

The exif data is embedded in the jpg & dng images.  There are no separate data files.

On my s2is there's also directory called /SNDR which contains some wav files, porbably temporary or something. Maybe you too have some trash like that?

Anyway - CHDK requires following things:

/CHDK and all it contains
/DISKBOOT.BIN
/PS.FIR
(you can have both bin and fir or one of them depending on the installation and the way you boot the cam).

If beside that and DCIM you have other things you have to consider it origin.

That exists on cameras which have a sound recorder (like yours). Look into the play menu if you haven't seen it yet.

Oh, thanks:) I am still discovering this camera, I have been it's owner for only three weeks (I've bought two broken ones for a few bucks and made one working).
