So technically then, what is the longest exposure one could get?
Not tested yet, maybe only limited by the size/type of the processor registers used in the code...(i guess ewavr knows 😉 )
And would it be recommended? Because I would imagine it could get quite noisy.
Hmm - recommended ? - No, not really !
Canon limits exposure to 15 seconds on all (?) cameras, maybe not only to avoid complaints due to bad/noisy images, maybe to prevent hardware damage...
Very longer exposure times may have "adverse effects" to the sensor or other electic components.
E.g. the continuous high power consumption for such a long timespan (we talk about 20 or 30 minutes !)

For example, would you recommend more to have one photo shot with long exposure, or maybe 20 shots at shorter exposure and merged together?
I'd prefer the 2nd cause...
Extremly long exposure times without special hardware modifications produces too bad/noisy images.
