so far there is only CHDK for 1.01a, you have to wait somebody program for your particular firmware. I am waiting for 1.00b too.

You're right, I'm a big dummy. I wasn't looking in the right spot for CHDK to start bracketing. Perhaps the lockup stems from the fact that I'm outputting in DNG, while trying to use the camera's Auto Exposure Bracketing function.

I think that might be the heart of the issue. I have the exact same problem when I use bracketing with DNG enabled. My SX10 locks up till the batteries are removed.

yes https://chdk.setepontos.com/d/3461 AFAIK it's enabled for sx10 101a already

If and when someone does a 101b port, it should be there as well.

Note, no amount of people saying they want a particular revision ported makes any difference in how likely it is to actually get ported. Porting to a new firmware revision is easier than porting to a new camera, but it's still a tedious task.

I'm also looking forward to 1.01b, but it'll get here when/if it gets here. Nagging those who freely donate their time and expertise to making it happen isn't going to help.

Pardon my ignorance. I just purchased a SX10 IS yesterday. Having used CHDK successfully in the past with several prior Canons I own, I naturally want to use it with the SX10 IS.

When I check the firmware on my camera, it indicates "GM1.02B" I am assuming, (perhaps incorrectly) that the version of CHDK currently available will not work on this Firmware, but that I will have to await a newer port.

Could someone kindly correct me if I am incorrect?

Is there a way CHDK can include Bulb mode? I mean, CHDK in general, for all cams, but especially on THIS camera, it's really IMO the only feature that's missing... and CHDK seems the only solution. But is it possible?

Hi,

Essentially there is bulb mode on the camera now. If you install the latest build of CHDK and install it on your SX10, you can get exposure lengths of 2048 seconds. That works out to be about 30 minutes.

Now I know bulb can go for longer, but because of the small sensors on these cameras, I don't think you'd want much longer anyway, or you might get a really crappy looking image.

But really, with 30 minutes, you can capture alot. I think you could even do star trails. I've seen some good ones on flickr that were about 20-30 minutes.

So anyway, no real option of bulb yet, but getting better. Plus, like I said earlier, with the SX10 having the smaller sensor, bulb might not work so well anyway. Others thoughts?

Exposures over 2048 are possible when you set "Shutter speed enum type" to [Factor] & use the value * factor settings...
E.g. [tt]Override Shutter Speed Value[/tt] [25] * [tt]Value Factor[/tt] [100] --> 2500 s (~41.6 minutes) exposure time...

Not tested yet, maybe only limited by the size/type of the processor registers used in the code...(i guess ewavr knows 😉 )

Hmm - recommended ? - No, not really !
Canon limits exposure to 15 seconds on all (?) cameras, maybe not only to avoid complaints due to bad/noisy images, maybe to prevent hardware damage...
Very longer exposure times may have "adverse effects" to the sensor or other electic components.
E.g. the continuous high power consumption for such a long timespan (we talk about 20 or 30 minutes !)

I'd prefer the 2nd cause...

Extremly long exposure times without special hardware modifications produces too bad/noisy images.
