Hello,
I tried to take raw pics with my sx20 IS (1.00F) with the diskboot.bin of neszt and chdk files folder from the other FW of the same camera model.
I have trouble enabling DNG after i run the script badpixel.lua. it says "can't load badpixel.bin" and ask me to run the script again even if it said ***finished*** when i run the script and saved it by pressing "set".
I can still take pics with CRW file extensions but I can't open it on my ubuntu.
i checked my UFraw with sample raw pic from internet and it works, which leads me to believe it is my crw files that have (a) problem.
Cab anyone help?

Do you use a multi partition setup ?
When you check the card with a card reader - is the file [tt]badpixel.bin[/tt] stored correctly in the [tt]\CHDK[/tt] folder ?

Thank you for the reply.
I used single partition because it is 2GB SD card. Do I have to make a partition for that size?. And I can't find any badpixel.bin file anywhere in the card.

I might have to add that the files I used are :
chdk folder, diskboot.bin and vers.req.
I wanted to give every information as to what I did to start chdk on my sx20 so that it will be easier to fix my problem.

No, a 2GB card will work fine without partitioning.

And I can't find any badpixel.bin file anywhere in the card.

DNG support can only be enabled with the badpixel.bin file in place.
The badpixel.lua script normally saves this file when you press FUNC/SET after the camera has captured the 2nd image.

Try the script again: just start it, wait for ~ 2 minutes (the camera will capture 2 images, you may see no feedback), then press the FUNC/SET button once.

After that, check the content of the card with a card reader;
if there's a file [tt]bad_tmp.bin[/tt] in the CHDK folder, rename it to [tt]badpixel.bin[/tt].

You can also create the badpixel.bin file with a little software tool, read more here:

I tried with the script and it goes as you said and as I already read about it. It takes less than a minute though to take the two pictures and notify me of the saving of the bin file. But the camera keeps displaying "create badpixel.bin" even after writing "***finished***",

I searched for the bad_tmp.bin with no luck. However I can see two files: "BADPIXEL.cfg" and "BADPIXEL_0" in DATA folder of chdk. I don't know what that means.

I also tried command ./show_bad CRW_0001.CR2 128 >badpixel (also with 99) for my 15" exposure pic
which gave me output that only contains "file is unknown".

I tried that by copying it out to chdk folder and naming it to .bin, run the lua script with the same result and moreover the badpixel,bin in the chdk folder got deleted by the cam.
Is there anyone with the FW 1.00F who managed to do save dng so that I can use their files?

I finally got it. it was something in the .lua file line 38 and 42 commenting them out made the dng work. msl helped me.

i am new here .... but got some issues with chdk on my Canon sx20.
I've got firmware version 1.02D

Whatever i try, i don't get the Firm update option under Menu.
Tried it with a 1 GB sd card and a 4 GB sd card.
1 gb split in two partitions with SDM. Tried it several times but i never get the Firm Update function.
Tried it with my 4 gb sd card, 1 partition and copied all the files to the root of my sd.

Any help would be great...

On the smaller partition, you only want DISKBOOT.BIN.

Have you made sure that is the first partition and the card has been made bootable and is locked ?

The CHDK folder can be in either partition.

CHDK will only use the folder on the same partition the rest of the camera sees. In a bootable dual partition setup, this means your CHDK folder must be on the large partition. Only diskboot.bin on the small partition is used.

I used SDMInste to set up my 16Gb so that both partitions are ~8G, so that if I set the switch on the card to 'Lock', I load chdk, and if I unlock it, it doesn't, and there's still enough space on the primary partition for the camera to store images in it when not running chdk.

Are you saying that CHDK successfully autoboots from a FAT32 partition if you have the lock engaged ? If this is true, then you don't need to partition at all. If it isn't true, there's something wrong with your description.

The normal way to have the camera see the large partition without CHDK is to swap them so the large one is first. You can normally swap back by manually loading CHDK, but AFAIK that is not available on sx20 (someone might want to try the my canon basic manual loading method...)

I would like to try this as my Ixus 95 does not support using two partitions and the SDM intstaller method, among others, does not work, sadly.
I have already posted that my Ixus 95 will reboot using your Canon Basic method. What I now need help with is how to use it in order to mimic the two partition boot method- one very small fat1n and one large fat32 partition for autoboot plus max use of space.
