when i use the romlog.lua in the scripts, it froze the camera, then said :16: error your chdk does not support native function calls.

i read the romlog wiki pages and all but it is a little on the complicated side for me. Sorry

using 1050, start crashes seem to be rare and only happens the first time after taking some photos and then turning the camera off.

It did the same for me. It just froze even after trying a few times it kept freezing...not crashing. But I didn't get that error 16 like you. I just couldn't turn the camera off or press any button. I am done with this testing for now. I am now restarting the camera like described in an earlier post. Pressing the start button for a little more than 1 second has solved the problem. That's the way I will do it from now on. That problem is real, it's just that it is very hard for the coders (or chdk expert) to duplicate and find a fix for it and I fully understand and respect that.

I have a great admiration for these guys trying to find a fix. If I would know half of what they know, I would be happy about that.

I agree with you Wowser...I too have great admiration for these guys....they have made something wonderful and i truly respect them 😀

Hi guys. I am the owner of the Canon powershot sx 20 is (ver1.0.2b) I installed your CHDK. I'm not very pleased with them. I could not install badpixel.lua correctly. After 100 attempts, I created badpixel.bin and put the save in DNG but it does not save in DNG! And when the camera is turned on in active mode, I press alt and then below the display is flashes badpixel bin. If I press the shutter it will begin again the process of creating it. Accelerometer does not work correctly when cdnk enabled. Sometimes the camera doesnt turn on correctly.The are many bugs( It is an alfa version i think not beta and not the final...

Because the script is no longer needed, and will not work properly in the current version of CHDK. badpixel.bin should be created using the raw menu now.

i think this depend on SX20 testers.Does the Sleep(1000) workaround help on SX20 or not.
Do SX 20 Users get too crash on series shoot in RAW ?

but best is to find out, wy the Camera crash sometimes with fsionotify when a makedir is call and sometimes not.
this seem more a dryos problem and no chdk problem.but because dryos can not easy fix, there need workaround in chdk add.

the startproblem on SX20 romlog is too a fsionotify

Save in DNG format turn on but doesnt work, 'DNG' file extention turn but doesnt work, but when both parameters are on i have dng picture which i can open in photoshop... Strange but crw and dng files have the same size Its normal?...

It's unlikely to be resolved unless someone who is actually affected by the problem is able to debug it. It's possible that someone without the camera will figure out the problem and fix it, but far less likely.

The *extension* has nothing to do with the file *format*. If you choose DNG format, the file will be saved in DNG format no matter what extension you choose. If you choose DNG extension, DNG format files will be saved with a .DNG extension. Non-DNG raws will never be saved with DNG extension.

Non-DNG raws (typically saved with a .CRW extension, but not actually in canons CRW format or any other well specified format) will be slightly smaller than DNG format files.

I also use an SX20 fw 1.02b. I ran a set test images for someone two days ago and here are what their stats look like:

CRW_1240.DNG 18,255KB
CRW_1241.CRW 18,217KB
CRW_1243.CR2 18,217KB

It appears you may be getting confused on which items to enable on the RAW menu...

Yes, the time to save the RAW formats does take longer because there is so much more info to save than the JPGs.

That is a good thing... The RAW images haven't been "tainted" by the Canon cameras "best guess" at how we want the JPG image to look. We get another chance to do our own processing using the RAW data to apply our own filters, white balance corrections,etc.

I was looking for this info and you replied before I could modify my last post. The three basic things you need to enable for the DNGs are the following:

Save Raw Enable [yes] / Disable [ ]
Enables the saving of RAW files. Enabling RAW does not disable JPEG, both are saved.

DNG format Enable [yes] / Disable [ ]
Save RAW in DNG format directly in the camera. This format can be read by many image editing programs. Also includes meta data like EXIF and whitebalance / color matrix information. The DNG files created have the same file extension as described in RAW, and can be reset manually to DNG. There is also an automatic function to rename for most cameras in the CHDK RAW menu. DNG format is now the preferred method of CHDK RAW capture. To enable this option the first time, a special file badpixel.bin must be generated and stored on the memory card once.

DNG' file extension Enable [yes] / Disable [ ]
To distinguish DNG from other RAW files. The DNG RAW image files will be stored as "<filename>.DNG" with this option enabled, otherwise the extension from the "RAW file extension" menu entry is used.

If you are asking whether you can just rename the CRW or CR2 files to DNG and then process them as DNGs, the answer is NO. The CHDK CRW & CR2 formats can not be read by PhotoShop CS3 and newer, only CHDK DNGs.

Raw takes longer than jpeg, DNG takes longer than normal raw. Make sure you enable "raw buffer chached" if you are using DNG, this will make DNG faster.

It must be this way. raw and DNG are much more data than jpeg, and DNG requires more processing than raw.

As I said before, the extension has absolutely nothing to do with the format of the actual data in the file. If you enable DNG, the the file is a DNG file. You can change the extension to anything you like, but some programs will expect a particular extension for particular format. Some programs look inside the file, and don't care about the extension.

I must be really stupid or there is something I really don't understand but all of this talk about Raw, DNG, CRW and all really has nothing to do with all of these crashes (for me anyway). If I go with the experience that I have with all those crashes, Raw was never ever enabled in any of the crash but the camera crashed anyway. Like I said previously and I will say it again....I have stopped having these crashes ever since I start the camera with the start button and holding it for a period of approximately 1.5 seconds.

Sorry if I can't be of any help to you guys but all this talk about Raw being at fault, I thought I should let you know that in my case, that was never even turned on at the time of the crash.

Oskar had some other questions (about the raw) that didn't have to do with the crashes...
