Ixus 300 /1000 use CMOS.cmos can read out faster. read also here

Seem also that CCD sensors do a trick to allow 1280*720 or 1920*1080 Video, and get not really the full resolution.video on the
Ixus 1000 HS look much more sharpen as the
S95.compare on photography blog.
the theory say when a video is record at 1920*1080 with 25 fps there need 51 megapixel process every second.
so a Camera that can read out all pixels of the Sensor for HD should be in theory able to shoot 10 megapixel at a rate of 5 fps.
but the sensor have 10 megapixel, so to read out all, this should do with 250 megapixel (10 * 25 fps)
The CCD Cams from Canon are far away from this series shoot rate.
S95 do 1.9 fps and
ixus 1000 with 10 megapixel too, but CMOS sensor do 3.7 fps series rate or 8.8 fps with 2.5 megapixel.
other cams with Sony BSI Cmos sensor can reach 30 fps until buffer is full.
So i think the CMOS camera does not really read out all pixels of the CCD, maybe they read out evey frame only half pixels.
But maybe somebody with more camera knowledge can explain that better.
