S95 Porting Thread

Hello, I got a S95 and use the firmware 1.00h. It works perfectely (revision 118😎
I wanted to get the shutter speed and aperture values but when I start the following script, the camera hang for 5 to 10 seconds, the screen stay ON and then it shuts down.

Are their any bug with get_av & get_tv commands?
probabely same problem with set### commands?
I would Like to override the aperture and shutter speed in my scripts. Is it the good solution to use set/get_av/tv?

Sorry, I honestly can't comprehend on how to do this. Using cardtricks and trying DryOS and VxWorks does nothing for me. When i click "strings" nothing shows loaded and when i go to clean, it says i have no valid data. I guess i'm not too savvy for this one 🙁.

What size memory card are you using ? Once you get to 4G and beyond, the file system changes and I have not had much success with card tricks etc either.

Do you have / can you get a 1G or 2G memory card ?

I first tried a 4G and then tried a 2G, had no success on either of them. Maybe i'm doing something wrong, not sure, but it's not working for me.

Hi all,
I also just got a new S95 (with the 1.00I firmware) and am also psyched to see what CHDK can do on it.

I dumped the firmware for you all, and added it to the wiki. Here's the zShare link:

I haven't tried the 1.00e or 1.00h betas yet, I'll do that next and let you know if I have any luck. I'll be watching this space to see if any progress is made on a version for this firmware.

I'm in the same boat as BryantFC, do you mind sharing a step by step for another confused person. I just got the s95 and it has the 1.00i firmware. I managed to get that information with the other e and h firmware. But as for going further to get the CHDK on my camera I'm stuck at the firmware dump, don't know what to do with files nivoli uploaded.

Unfortunately, CHDK for the S95 camera with firmware l is not yet available. Somebody needs to port the S95 code to support this camera. Typically this means somebody with some software skills who owns the camera and has the time to learn and work through the porting process.

Thanks for the information, waterwingz. That's too bad, I wanted to get the time lapse feature on my camera for my trip next week. I don't know C, but anyone in the San Jose area that knows how to do this want to get together to work on it?

I guess we'll have to actually wait and hope for someone to port it Rachel. I wanted the CHDK for the camera for smaller aperture , the zooming and refocusing on video mode and a couple of other things. To compensate for timelapsing, you can check out this little tutorial 😀 very simple, just use a tripod, right sizeable rubber band, mechanical pencil eraser and continuous picture shooting.

Thanks, BryantFC, I had seen this before (and then found out about chdk in the comments). Unfortunately, the maximum amount of time between shots in continuous mode is 1.9 seconds. I want at least a minute between shots over a 6 hour period. Hopefully a more tech savvy person than use will figure out the port 😀

Would it be possible for the recent buyers of the S95 with the new firmware 100.i as well as other owners who purchased their S95 in recent months that did have the older firmware 100.h to post the serial numbers of their cameras ?

This might help others wanting to purchase an S95 to get a fair idea whether they are more likely to get the new or the old firmware since the serial numbers might give one an indication as to approximately when the firmware was upgraded.

I know a local store that has seven in stock and - based on this information - just checking their serial numbers by phone might provide a reference without having to go through test shots...

Okay - twist my arm. I took a quick look and the "i" firmware seems to add 16 bytes fairly high up in memory (0xFFb0 0000 range) that the "h" version does not have so porting this might be quite easy. And I'm looking for an additional tests for CHDK-PT. https://chdk.setepontos.com/d/6367

So, as I don't (yet) have an S95, my only condition is that at least 2 people volunteer to test my efforts by sending me a real email address via PM https://chdk.setepontos.com/u/waterwingz. I've learned the hard way that one really needs to have a way to contact testers outside of this forum during a porting process.

Good points, but I am refering mainly to cameras bought in the last few months that have either 100.h or 100.i that might help give an inidcation of what is most likely going to be loaded on unsold stock. Unsold stock in any store is likely to be fairly recent because this model sells quite well so it's highly unlikely it would have a firmware version earlier than 100.h. We did this with the SD1000 some years back and could tell with fair accuracy which firmware was loaded according to serial numbers.

Indeed it would be worth taking the trip to the camera store, but I should point out this camera store is 40 kilometers from where I live so it would be nice to have some indication beforehand ! Also, most stores here simply will not let customers handle or test new stock - only demo units. So one can't test the cameras until after one has bought them...

PS. camera settings is at 99 Quality setting, disabled digital zoom and set button as Auto Refocusing during video.

Does this problem occur strictly when you load CHDK ? Usually, this type of problem with video is due to the SD card you are using. For video you're better off using class 6 or higher so that the video is stored rapidly enough not to have to interrupt to save.

all you need for timelapse is that scripting works. I'd be very surprised if it didn't. Here's a simple script to try (put it in the CHDK/SCRIPTS folder and then select the script in Alt mode). Once that's done, clicking the shutter should run the script (taking a photo every few seconds - 5 by default).

Ahh, there lies the problem. The card i have CHDK loaded on is a class 4 4GB SDHC. I never seen this issue in any other card because i have two Class 10 8 GBs.
