S95 Porting Thread

I used Cardtricks and it works for me too, I think. I say this because:

- there isn't a "Firmware update..." option in the Playback Menu, so I skipped steps 17 - 19 from the CHDK for Dummies page (http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK_for_Dummies)

- but the splash start up screen appears in both the Play Mode start and the regular camera On/Off. The chdk menu options are viewable pressing the button with the S in a square (http://www.kenrockwell.com/canon/s95/controls.jpg) then the Menu button

I'll go through some of the menu options and take test shot and post if there other issues.

all you need for timelapse is that scripting works. I'd be very surprised if it didn't. Here's a simple script to try (put it in the CHDK/SCRIPTS folder and then select the script in Alt mode). Once that's done, clicking the shutter should run the script (taking a photo every few seconds - 5 by default).

Thanks for information Zeno. A few questions:

- I used Cardtricks, which put everything directly on the card from the zip file. Can I just add the script to the SCRIPTS folder through the card reader?

- With the script you posted what file format and what program do I use to I save it as?

- Once saved in that format which folder do I put it in? There are two folders in CHDK/SCRIPTS: EXAM and TEST

The file needs to be copied to the card (using drag-and-drop and a card reader). It should have a name like "lapse.bas". You can copy and paste it from the webpage into Windows notepad and then save it to your computer, but make sure it's saved as a .bas file, not a .txt file.

Scripts can go anywhere, but most people put them in the CHDK/SCRIPTS folder (the two sub-folders contain sample scripts that come with CHDK).

Okay, i'm looking here at the manual and i had a few questions regarding the Video Parameters. Not too sure if it's just the S95 or this particular firmware hack or if something is missing.

Within the Parameters, the Video Bitrate is missing and Mute during zooming is missing as well. Is that normal?

You're welcome but the credit and thanks go to Waldo. He did all the real work to make this possible. He was also a big help to me when I ported my own camera model so this is kind of payback I guess.

Is there anyway possible to run CHDK with a card higher than 4GB? I'm trying to get my 8GB running but i'm having problems in trying to create two partitions and such and such. Could anyone help out?

EDIT: disregard that. Always happens to me when I have a question and i can't figure out and i end up figuring it out myself. I'm assuming it works on a card that would be 16 and up (i'm currently using 8GB) it's fairly easy.

I actually used a EASEUS Partition Master and formatted both partitions as primary. First partition is 10 MB, FAT16 while the second is 7GB and FAT32. Just go through the same process with Cardtrick's and that's pretty much it!

I made a kind of batch script environnement wor windows. It is available here:

How this works:
* This must NOT be in a directory with "space caracter": " "
* develop all the scrypts you wantin this directory with all remarks
* Keyword DDEBUG means the corresponding line will be generated for debug script.
* Keyword NDEBUG means the corresponding line will not be generated for debug script.
* Starting ProcessScrypts.Bat generate DEBUG and Not debug scrypts in 2 directories
* All remarks are removed from the crypts to save execution time
* I put some scripts as example, they are working pretty well

I have a S95 with CHDK 1191 for firmware 100h. Some times when I load chdk into the camera, it just shutdowns. And it will not start again until I delete the CCHDK.CFG file.
But this canot be done from the camera so it is not convenient.
Is it a known bug ?
Where can I report it?

However, it seems unlikely in this day and age of viruses and malware that anybody in this group is going to be in a big hurry to try your scripts when the zip file includes and uses an executable program called f a r t.exe (spaces added to get around the forum censor function). My suggestion here would be for you to include the source code for f a r t.exe and let us examine and compile for ourselves ?

This is pretty much the best place to report it. So in essence, you just did. Whether waldo or another developer with this camera will look at the bug is an informal process however. That sometimes depends on how many other people are having the same problem.

Yes exactly, I was tired of putting and removing my SD card, So With 2 version of the script, I was able to analyse more quickly the issues.

Sounds like the startup crash problem that has plagued a number of cameras (https://chdk.setepontos.com/d/6179).

Attached is a version built with the fix for this enabled (for S95 1.00h firmware).

Thank you. I tried it and 5 times it was working well.
I will keep this custom verions, for a while, but it looks like it could be integrated into the autobuild release of chdk.

@philmoz : I don't remember anybody needing to erase their cchdk.cfg file when this happens. It was more like a random event that got worse as you put more pictures on your SD card.

If the cfg doesn't exist, it doesn't need to be opened and read (and probably some other files don't get read as well), so it would make sense that it reduces the odds of hitting this problem.

Makes sense now. Seems like a long time ago I was living that nightmare too.

Yes, just add that define to platform_camera.h and it will be applied to all firmware versions.

Now you mentionned I noticed the problem occured more and more frequently so it is consistent with the number of photos on the SD card.
But in my case, when it happen, I had no other option than deleting the chdk.cfg file. the camera would not startup otherwise.
