Firmware for A650 1.0.0d where is it ?

I got my cam A650IS but the firmware shows up as 1.0.0.0, and I think it should have "d" on the end. Where can I find the firmware to upgrade it ? I checked all the links on forums and even some foreign Canon sites, but no luck..

can anyone help me out ?
thanks,

Put a file named vers.req on your SD card, power it up in review mode, press and hold the FUNC. SET button, and press DISP several times. You should see different screens on your camera, including the other firmware version.

Actually, I believe Hacki is correct...

What is happening is that you are incorrectly reading the firmware version of your camera... The Canon P&S cameras require a empty "VER.REQ" file (and probably at least one .img file) on your SD Card before going through the Review/Function/etc. magic.

The 1.0.0.0 is an invalid firmware version that is reported back by the camera--typically if the ver.req file is missing or in the wrong location (or, commonly misspelled i.e., g for q "G for Q").

Read here for the detailed instructions:

FAQ - CHDK Wiki

There are very few update files available for Canon P&S cameras--and no consumer available firmware updates (that I am humbly aware of) for any of the current crop of Canon P&S cameras out there...

ok, that makes sense, sorry I didn't get it with Hacki post.

I got the right firmware ver, I downloaded allbest for A650, yet - the zip file has only diskboot.bin and no PS.fir > therefore I cannot really "load" the chdk. Hmm.. not sure what am I missing here.. any ideas ?

polishruben,

the A650 is a camera with the DryOS operating system, there's no PS.fir file, you have to make your card bootable as described here on the A650 site.
The easiest way for you to do all that may be using Cardtricks, see here: CHDK Wikia: CHDK for Dummies # I have the camera already.

my card is 16gb, Fat16 is not going to be good for that .. hmm.. Should I make a partition for Fat16 and boot the card fromt here ? - where the pictures will be stored on the f16 or 32 ?

The only way to use your whole 16GB SDHC card with CHDK is the "multi partition support" way (use the search, there's much stuff about this), but this special feature (2 partitions on the card, one small FAT16 & a big FAT32, CHDK swaps the partitions on start) is camera dependend, the A650 should supports this.

The configuration for this can be a pain, not so easy...

Perhaps you would also try the SDM (Stereo Data Maker) , there's a nice installer that should do all the things for the multi partitioning...

Hi Fe50.. I downloaded SDM, paritiotned the card - and loaded Allbest build. On the startup I see Allbest being loaded up, great.. now.. how do I get to the CHDK menu ? On my 620 It was I think ALT and then another button.. here.. none of the combinations work ?

Any ideas ? Thanks guys, you have been very helpful!
