S-series-like video mode behaviour in the A series

S series is different (I bought second hand S3 several days ago) than A series. You can set autofocus mode to continuous, an camera will be refocusing during video recording, or you can force manual refocus with half press of the shutter during video recording. If you fully press shutter, jpeg is saved and video recording continues further (well - if raw is enabled through CHDK, video recording is also terminated, which was discussed in other thread)

This stuff or at least some of it would be useful in my A710 :D and I bet for others too.

yeah it'll be nice... i have zoom in video via allbest's build, but still i have to use script sometimes for manual focus...

Looks like yet another focus video request. I wouldn't count on continuous AF. But zooming is pointless with fixed focus, so we definitely need some focus control.

I don't get it. When using a camera for video, doesn't it need to continuously auto-focus even if zoom is not used? So does using CHDK to zoom cause the camera somehow halt the auto-focusing?

Camera does need continuous AF in video but probably it won't be possible for A series (that's what I meant). Normally A series have fixed focus, so any focus control would be good.
