Possibility of Higher Audio Sampling Rate in A-series

(This is out of curiosity only. Not any feature request!)
The IDA disassembly shows that A720IS uses audio ic 'la74310lp' manufactured by Sanyo. So I grabbed a pdf file describing the specs of the IC (attached here) to see if it is (theoretically) capable of recording at higher sampling rates. I can't understand anything from the pdf as I know very little of these semiconductors. Can someone please help?

P.S. The S5IS uses another audio ic named 'ak4646'.

GOSH! Now that's Chinese for me, dude!
Yes I was thinking about the same: better sound quality on A-series. It would be great, cause it's really cheap at the moment.

LA74310LP has no DAC or ADC, only analog circuits (amplifiers/filters, digitally controlled).

That means no hope of resolving the mystery?(There may be some other chip in which analog to digital conversion is done :()

I think the audio quality is very limited by the microphone in the first place.

I think the audio quality is very limited by the microphone in the first place.

Even the cheapest electret capsules output astoundingly high quality sound... Of course the way the mic is installed in the camera may colors the sound a lot and makes the mic pick up a whole lot of handling noise. In any case 8 bits/11kHz is just horrendous compared to what the mic really outputs.

Yes. Built in microphones in S3, for instance, are also very small, but sound quality is miles better than on A620
