You can not port chdk to A410. It's very old camera.

I wouldnt bet on that. Its a DIGIC II platform, and quite similar to the already ported A450.

Well, googling yielded a DPREVIEW link, which says it's got Digic II,
so I don't see why it should be impossible.

Start off by dumping your firmware using the universal dumper
really easy if your on Windows:

download Card Tricks - a small utility to help manage SD cards [currently v. 1.36]

(since it's Digic II, use the VxWorks option)

ok.. 10q for starting position.. I'll give it a try.. I have almost nothing to lose, cause my old A410 sitting in the dark corner for long time ago.. What benefits I could expect in the case of success..? 10q 4 support..

Well, after you dumped your firmware it needs to be ported, which involves some serious work

Read about that process here Adding support of a new camera - CHDK Wiki

Open a new topic (or change the name of this one) like e.g. "Porting A410 - help wanted"
and see if you can find collaborators - what have you got to lose ?

I'm trying to dump the firmware from a 410 camera with Card Tricks 1.41 under WinXP, but it does not open the camera. In the Browse for folder window I can see the Canon Powershot A410, I can select it, but after clicking OK, the window just blinks and nothing happen. What to do?
And what does VxWorks option mean?
thanks

@mastodon

Welcome to the forum !

You can't make this work via the USB cable, Canon only allows it's own software to
communicate with it's cams like that (and even so it doesn't allow full access to the card)

In order to use CardTricks you need a card reader (it doesn't matter if it is a built in
or external one)

Thank you for your urgent help.  :)
I've uploaded the firmware to http://rapidshare.com/files/163663276/CanonPowershotA410vGM1.00F.zip.html

What to do next? I see that I can not make CHDK to this camera ready.
