SD450 hangs immediately after loading CHDK

Just got a free SD450 and am trying to get it set up for timelapse use on race cars. Problem is, it hangs immediately after I choose "OK" in the Update Firmware Version screen. Blank screen, all controls unresponsive, the only escape is to remove the battery. I've tried all three available CHDK firmware versions, with the same result each time. Any suggestions?

This is usually caused by using the wrong firmware version. You can use the ver.req trick http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ#Q._How_can_I_get_the_original_firmware_version_number_of_my_camera.3F to find out what version it has. I'd be surprised if there were a previously unknown version out there, but you never know.

If you've previously used the same card with CHDK in other cameras, make sure you replaced all the files (a format never hurts). The PS.FIR file is used with the "firmware update" method. The diskboot.bin is used for automatic boot.

Also make sure it's an sd450 not an a450 or something. I know it sounds obvious, but that kind of confusion happens more than you might think.

It's an SD450. Using a freshly formatted card. Firmware number is GM1.00c.

Well that takes care of the easy cases.

It's possible we've broken that port somewhere along the line. If so, that means we need to narrow down which change did it. You can start with the build at http://mighty-hoernsche.de/old but that's pretty recent so it probably won't help.

If you want to try this yourself, Whims chdkshell http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=845.0 makes this fairly easy for non-programmers to switch versions and build chdk.

If you can follow the instructions here http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Canon_Basic/Card_Setup to prepare a canon script disk, you can also try getting a crash log using http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Canon_Basic/Scripts/Romlog

Not much has changed specific to this camera recently. The only thing I can think of is PTP, so I'm posting a build with that disabled.
