I played to find out whats wrong with the highspeed-shutteroverrides. They seem to work better in "P" then in "Tv"-mode...
but until now I can't see a pattern. I think some overrides don't work some do. I try to find out more.

Don't want to derail thread, but if any version of Adobe Lightroom is free beyond a 30-day tryout period, please let me know. 😀 DCRAW is open-source and free, forever (also there are a large number of other image tools that use dcraw behind the scenes as the raw converter.)

That would be useful information. Every time I have tested it, the overrides work out to about 1/10,000. Beyond that, I see no effect. But I have not methodically tested overrides in different shooting modes.

I noticed that a problem when comparing is the whitebalance. I took pictures of a bulb, but the camera changed the white balance from time to time, so some pictures seemed to be darke or brighter. and with 1/20.000 that's a lot of change. but with manual white balance it's definitively working to 1/20.000. great!

almost the same, but brighter and less transparent (caused by the brightness), maybe less sharp - but I didn't catch a good one with 1/1600 so I can't compare that

edit: the backround is more or less black at 1/10.000, while you can see a dark backround shapes at 1/1.600

My S95 seems to boot in playback mode. Is there a way of setting it straight into shooting mode?

Excellent work guys in paving the way with DryOS r45. This will certainly help in future ports on other cameras using DryOS r45 (like the SX130IS I own). Keep up the good work 😀

Waldo, thx for your great effort. Ive tried version 6 for the 100H and though Ive yet to learn about the CHDK, Ive was able to use AF and optical zoom in movie mode which was a great plus.

But I've found some weird behavoir with shutter override, I dont know if there are some features I have to disable on the cam but it doesnt seem to work in P/Tv/Av/SCN mode. When I half-press the shutter button, the screen shows the overrid shutter speed for a split second, but from then on it shows the cam-set shutter speed and shoots at the cam set speed.
The override seems to work without problems in Auto/M/C mode (tested 64secs & 1/10000), but one thing I've noticed with it is that the overridden shutter speed is not recorded in exif maker notes (checked exif using Exiftool). When I have more time, I'll try to play with the cam more to see what I may be doing wrong.

you are not doing wrong. the override speeds are not written into the exif as normal shutterspeed + the camera will not always show the overrides when halfpressing the shutter. look at the pictures to see if it works or not. (for me the overrides worked with 1.00e in P and Av, haven't tested more modes)

thanks emutier for your reply. As I've wrote, in P/Tv/Av/SCN mode, the cam shoots at the cam's shutter value and not the override speed. I've tested at 1/5000 & 1/10000 so that I'll know right away if the shots were sucsessful or not. I havent had the time to test more, maybe this weekend I'll have some time.

About the exif, I thought that the override values were recorded in the makernotes tag or someother extra tag. I'll have to re-read the wiki I guess.

Can you explain exactly how you know by looking at your shots that the overrides do not work? Are you comparing the 1/5000 shot against the 1/10000 shot?

Keep in mind that not everything is the same on every camera. Even if the wiki is correct for some particular camera (which you should not assume!), only experiment can verify whether it is correct on your camera.

When in P/Av/Tv, its obvious because the cam will shoot at 1/30 or 1/45 or some slow value that the cam (or I) set dispite me setting override shutter speed to 1/5000 or 1/10000. Keeping the same settings in CHDK, I can shoot at the override shutterspeed in AUTO/M/C and the pics are very,very dark so I know that the cam is shooting at the set override speed.

After playing around more I found the problem, I had left servoAF ON in P/Av/Tv while I had turned it off in C mode. After turning servo AF off, I was able to shoot at the override shutter speeds in P/Av/Tv (dont know why I dont have to turn it off in M mode but its not a problem so I'll just leave it like that).

Thanks, I'll remember that from now on. I guess its just best to take a note of the used values, and edit the exif when you get home.

Thank you for that information. I never turn on servo AF so maybe that is why it worked for me. I'll look into that. In my experience using CHDK with other cameras, I find that there are many such interactions, not only for exposure overrides, but also for focus and zoom in scripts.
