A romlog would be helpful (if the cam records one before the crash). Unfortunately I'm not familiar with booting issues (the notes say that "firm update" boot does not work, may be related).

Was this with 1.2? If so I'd suggest trying the latest 1.3 with the recent fixes reyalp added for I/O related crashes.

On April 5, I protected additional functions in 1.3 for this assert, so it might be fixed now.

If it still happens in the current trunk, a romlog with the corresponding main.bin.dump from the build would be helpful.

Sorry for the delay.  I just tried the last build and the CHDK splash screen does not go away.  It goes off for a moment and comes back on.
