I upgraded from a PowerShot S2 IS to a PowerShot SX10 IS.

So far the camera has been great.

Soccer season just started and to my sorrow the SX10 only shots 1.4 Frames per second in the fixed focus continous mode.

My S2IS shot at 2.4 fps. I know that doesn't seem like a big difference. But I am missing tons of action.  :(

Is there any way thru using a Firmware upload to improve the fps?

Unfortunately not.
If anything you will slow it down.

Use a newly low-level-formatted card, do not save raw, ISO not more than 200 and with certain cameras choose a digital tele-zoom setting that matches one of the camera's native resolutions.
