Why does the camera save the JPG image that looks like its been edited to look like "poop"

It looks very "soft" on all the edges and way OVER smooth .
if i take a photo with my Casio it looks BETTER than the Photos i take with the PowerShot 300HS.
it looks like the PowerShot has NO sharpness to it at all.

Does this question have anything to do with CHDK ?

AFAIK, there is nothing much CHDK can do to affect JPG image quality - what you get from Canon is what you get.   You might be able to tweak things a bit more on the Canon menus but CHDK is "out of the loop" while the camera is doing its thing with the jpeg save.

I guess what you are referring to is the heavy noise reduction in the jpeg.  AFAIK some cameras give you some control of noise reduction in the stock firmware.

If you are shooting at high ISO, the Canon firmware may use more noise reduction than low ISO.

None of this has anything to do with CHDK, although it is possible that CHDK could be modified to tweak these settings.

If you shoot raw (including DNG), you can do the noise reduction yourself.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

It looks like an "Option" to change some of these settings..

CHDK just Might be able to get to and change more on this than it does now....

File Name IMG_3561.JPG
Camera Model Name Canon PowerShot ELPH 300HS
Shooting Date/Time 1/28/2012 11:14:04 PM
Shooting Mode Program AE
My Colors Mode Off
Tv (Shutter Speed) 1--------------------CHDK can change this one
Av (Aperture Value) 2.7 ----------------CHDK can change this one
Light Metering Center Weighted Avg.
Exposure Compensation 0
ISO Speed 200 ---------------------------CHDK can change this one
Lens 4.3 - 21.5 mm
Focal Length 4.3 mm
Digital Zoom None
IS Mode On
Image Size 4000x2248
Image Quality Superfine ----------------CHDK can change this one
Flash Off
White Balance Auto
AF Mode Single AF ----------------CHDK can change this one
Parameters Contrast Normal
Sharpness Normal ----------- (like this one) would be nice  This is the one here that is Needed Badly
Saturation Normal ---------------------------(And this one) this one would be nice
Color Space sRGB
i-Contrast On
File Size 3434 KB
Drive Mode Single Shot

I have tryed usen all the IOS's and mixed with Other settings and thay still turn out flat and "bla" ...

How can you say "None of this has anything to do with CHDK"

I suppose its technically possible that CHDK could tweak this and the Canon jpeg firmware would respond.  But IMHO,  its not very likely.  And as nobody knows how to do this, until somebody who cares enough comes along and plays with it, don't hold your breath on anything changing. Assuming the long shot that its possible at all.

You are of coarse welcome to try yourself.  People here will applaud your efforts.

I think that's why CHDK people like their RAW & DNG files.   You could go that route too.

Oh dont get me wrong ........
I love the raw files to  :)
its just nice to be able to point and shoot and dump a photo at a falily members home and
have it be a nice photo "without" the need of software to tonemap and combine .
i use the raw files ALOT but there are times thay are Completely useless when your away from home.
