 Canon’s excellent customer service (and a sweet new camera) | Brain on Fire blog entry. guy also is in this forum here (i do remember his face :D). funny thing is, he apparently got sent a new shiny s5is for free from canon because his stone-age-old s1is had a "known error" the so called "purple lines of death". :D

I've had the "purple lines of death" on a Sony DSC U20. they've changed the CCD so it still works. just that I didn't have a decent digital camera for 2 months because of that while it was in service.

Take a look at this:

Hack your Canon camera with its CHDK boot-file

This is an article in a well respected industrial magazine. Canon marketing is not going to like it and do not be surprised if CHDK developers move up on their most wanted list!
