DryOS R47 cameras can boot from SD card > 4GB without partitioning !!!!!!

Has anyone tried this on a DryOS R45 camera? I have an SX30 and if I can get it to boot on a 32-bit card, I will have the most awesome timelapse system ever!

Right now no 32-bit boot is keeping Endless Memory from working.

And can I try this just editing the DISKBOOT.BIN file in a hex editor or do I need to do something fancier?

Philmoz ported both the sx30 and g12. If this worked on these cameras, he would have mentioned it.

Editing the diskboot.bin would not help. You need to edit the boot sector of the SD card.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

The IXUS 1000 (SD4500) is a 2010 DryOS R45 release.
It does not have the new firmware code to autoboot from FAT32 cards.

Just to be clear this only applies to new cameras released in 2011 that have DryOS version R47.
It does not work on older camera with DryOS version R45 or earlier (even though Canon may have released new firmware version for these cameras in 2011).

Download a recent CHDK Version from autobuild server. Copy all files on SD card. Start the camera by holding the [PLAYBACK] button for 1-2 seconds. Start CHDK manually over Canon menu item "Firm update". When CHDK is starting go into ALT mode by pressing [DISP.]+[FUNC.SET] button. Choose in CHDK menu "Miscellaneous stuff". Go to "Make card bootable... " and press [FUNC.SET]. Switch off camera. Lock the SD card.

Start the camera. Now CHDK should start automatically.

Is there anywhere a list of the Canon cameras that have DryOS R47? I'd like to put a note on my SDMInst page telling people with such cameras they don't need use it to produce dual-partition cards (and modify my MacBoot program so it can create bootable single-partition FAT32 cards for them).

I'm aware that it seems to apply to 2011 cameras only - but does it apply to all of them (Ixus and Powershot)? To any 2010 cameras?

This is where I go to look at such questions : DPReview Timelines

AFAIK, it applies to both camera model  types.
