I am confused since there is a version 145 out yet this thread seems older.  I have 145, but can't get it to make fat32 cards bootable.
CardTricks 1.44 is the latest "standard" version, v1.45 is a special version for DSLR CF card handling.

CardTricks is a GUI, it just calls the good old bootable.exe...
To "update" this to the new FAT32 boot mechanism, the bootable.exe app could be adapted... sources are included in every CardTricks package (\CardTricks\SRC\helper_sources.zip\bootable\ ) ;)

So far, the only ways to do that are via Linux or Apple utilities.  Or using the CHDK in the camera to do that.
Or using a hex editor (e.g. HxD from http://mh-nexus.de/en/hxd/ - free, usable without installation) to write the BOOTDISK tag to the card...

Where should the BOOTDISK label be for my 16GB card?
FAT32 formatted card (cameras with DryOS version >= R47 from year >=2011: offset 0x1E0
FAT12 / FAT16 formatted card (all cameras): at offset 0x40

Well, you could use it to format your SD card as FAT32 and then follow the steps here :

Hello,

I tried to make my sd cards bootable using cardtrick 1.44
Unfortunately this did not work because as soon as I select an sd card the program says "Bootable.exe" does not work anymore.
My laptop is 64 bit with win7. I ran the program as administrator as recommended.

I then used the camera (using this forum, thnx guys) and now the cards are fine.

I do want to know if this is normal or if more people have this problem, and if not, how to solve it as cardtricks is a very usefull tool.

Greetzzz from a very happy chdk user.
Powershot A620 (not anymore), A630 and SX30IS.

Cardtricks is now basically obsolete.   Newer cameras, larger partitions and larger SD cards have passed it by.

Better options can be found here :  http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Prepare_your_SD_card

thnx guru,

my cards are working fine now and I did not have to use card tricks. I used it a long time ago to set up my cards for my powershot A620, but that was stolen a while back and I got an other A630 now and had to install it again.
Took me a while. And I wanted the A630 because of the movable screen which is super te use.

I'm trying to use v 1.44 to make a bootable SD card with CHDK, but bootable.exe keeps crashing.

Any help/suggestions?

This program does not work for your camera (A4000?). It's only for cameras released before 2011.

Read more about SD cards & cameras released after 2010: http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Bootable_SD_card#For_Cameras_Released_After_2010_:

CardTricks is pretty much obsolete but somehow people keep finding it.

The STICK utility is a much better option to use these days : http://zenoshrdlu.com/stick/stick.html
