SX600HS porting thread

I bought a SX600HS. Now I would like to help porting CHDK on it.
I am an experienced programmer, but I've never done a CHDK port before.

I have already posted a dump: here

CHDK-Shell and IDA is installed.

In "Adding support for a new camera", I have read that it is best to start with the code of an already existing port as basis and adapt it file by file.
But which port would be suitable best as a template for the sx600hs port?

In general,  you need to take a look at this link : dpreview.com timeline and find the camera with the closest release date to yours.  Finding models in the same line helps as a tie breaker.

Unfortunately,  the SX600 is quite new (by CHDK standards) and there is nothing close.  But at least it's not a Digic6 camera - none of those have been ported yet.

I'd suggest starting with the sx510hs ?

Also, you might also want to look at this thread : New tool for porting  for information about the code_gen utility.

And while it's a little "long in the tooth", this can be handy for creating "ready to gcc compile CHDK code" : CHDK-PT

I am also looking to buy an SX600HS, or an ELPH 340 (my second choice), but I don't want to spend the money until someone has succeeded in porting CHDK to them. I am a little worried because none of the Digic 4+ models have CHDK yet, even though firmware dumps for some of them have been available for nearly a year. Is there something unusual about the Digic 4+ Powershot models that makes it impossible to run CHDK on them?

Take a look at this :
link> CHDK FAQ : My camera isn't ported yet

AFAIK,  the issue is not with DIGIC4+ but more with not finding someone willing to do the port(s) with the time, skills, interest and access to a DIGIC4+ camera.    I would suggest that many CHDK camera ports were only done a year or more after the camera was first introduced for those reasons and I'd expect the 4+ cameras to be the same.

Attached is a work-in progress for the SX6010HS source code.
I do have this camera and will continue with this porting attempt

Heya lavern, Hardware_Hacker - did you get anything working for SX600HS?
There are builds for SX610HS and SX620HS, but I guess they might be too different to even attempt using.
