But anyway,  happy testing. ;)

I'm abroad w/o my sx40 but next week I'll fly away for a 2w holiday with it... I'll collect all the logs and  attach them if I'm back.

Thanks, J.

Thank you,
Currently not work with the "firmware update method" on my sx40 (I install your package + CHDK folder on the root).
If I can help with some feedback ? (I have a GM1.00f version)
Cheers,

What exactly is "not working" via firmware update? I tested it here with my 1.00f camera and it works.

Maybe I miss something in the process (sorry if it's the case).
Here is what I did :
I check the version of my SX40 with both ver.req and vers.req uploaded on a 4Go SD via a card reader.
Fine, it's a GM1.00f like you.
I Upload your fresh DISKBOOT.BIN and PS.FI2.
I grab an CHDK folder (the wrong part?) of a SX30 1.00E here : http://mighty-hoernsche.de/
Upload CHDK folder + your DISKBOOT.BIN + your PS.FI2 on the root of the 4Go SD via a card reader.
I don't lock the card, insert it in the SX40, switch it on, turn the playback mode, go to the bottom of the menu.
I don't see "upgrade firmware".
Then, I try with an "f" version of the CHDK folder (exactly the SX130IS 1.01F) and restart the thing.
But the same, nothing.

So, what CHDK folder do you use ? any importance about the "letter" version?
May I boot with CardTricks (I a PC user).

Anyway, I'll try again now.
I'll be pleased to use the RAW.

You have to start the camera by pressing the playback button (not the On/Off button) is you want to use the firmware update method.

Thank you, waterwingz!
It's work, yepee !!!

Ok, first tests : Super fine jpeg work.
I shot 2 time the same subject with "Super fine" ~3100Ko, with "fine" ~1800Ko.
But honestly, It's not very spectacular (even 100% crop) :
http://www.zshare.net/info.html?95856734-d8b041c5cc60e9f3d6cb6e4e62834c63

Video : I test a 30sec fixed area with CHDK at quality 99 and without CHDK.
Both file have the same size so it probably don't work (or I miss an option).

About RAW : It currently crash (as ERR99 say).
Zebra : Seems Ok , Histogram : Seems Ok , Script : Not sure, Game calendar : Ok.

Here is my ROMLOG attached.

Thank you guys for this great work!
Super fine jpeg works fine for me too, coming with a decent file size increase. Looks a little sharper/less artefact loaded, particular on edges. Becomes apparent in images with plenty of edges and hard contrasts, e.g. a macro of a TFT screen. Set the zoom to 2-3x, keep steady/tripod and shoot on iso 100.
What I noticed, if I turn the quality override off the last setting will effectively persist. Only rebooting resetted the quality as monitored by file size.
I'm really looking forward to seeing a raw of this camera. Anybody knows if the camera autocorrects for lens aberrations?

@Segoran Yes, the camera autocorrect the aberration.
I read it here (in French) : http://www.lesnumeriques.com/canon-powershot-sx40-hs-p322_11807_1.html

Small update (V0.0.2):

- Startup-mode detection should work now:
Wake up via PLAY Button or (short) ON/OFF button -> Start into PLAYMODE
Wake up via (long) ON/OFF button press -> Start into SHOOTINGMODE
- Under "Extra Photo Operations" shutterspeed and aperture value overrides should work also.
- Disabled the permanent write of error romlog to sd-card during startup.

The ISO overrides makes still trouble. It is possible to set a override value, but i dont get the expected results e.g.:
If i set a override ISO1, the camera chooses ISO10. ISO10 leads to ISO100 and with a ISO override >=100, the camera takes a very over exposed picture with ISO 64000! (This is at least the camera shows as ISO value if i review the photo in PLAYMODE).

@soungalo: merci beaucoup. Just what I had expected after the reviews of the SX30.

@ERR99: thanks again, great.
