and no ALT in upper left.

There is NO alt upper left, it would be 'USB'.

There was not a SDM splashscreen on my screen, sorry.  I did download it file 3 times and delete the one old file.
If I press the button, the focus will show for a second then gone.  If I press button quickly again, I get the focus screen and it will stay.  I press again and the shutter works.  It looks like that is how it works, it works many times.  Again,, I thank you for your help and your knowledge.

This is what I suspected.
Nothing works because you are not using the file I gave you the link for.
I have no idea how you can do that.

I suggest that you delete all files  and install the SDM  DISKBOOT.BIN .

We cannot do anything until you use the correct file.

David, I cleaned off the card, reformatted the card. Downloaded the chdk again but before I loaded everything I loaded your DISKBOOT.BIN again.  I then loaded the chdk to the card.  I did not allow the original DISKBOOT.BIN to come over to the card.  I now have a new setup on the card.  I think that the .BIN file is the same as the one I had.  The files are the same as when I send the 1/2 hour ago.

We cannot do anything until you use the correct file.             what else can I do.

Joem,

PLEASE do not load CHDK, just load the single file I have given you the link for.

Just to be clear .. you must have a bootable card and it should only contain the file I gave you a link for.
If you have formatted a card, make it bootable using your normal method, delete all files and copy just the one file I gave you the link for.

Boot the camera and tell me the first five menu headings.

David, I have formatted the card, make it bootable using CDHK, delete all files and copy just the one file you gave me the link for.  I did that and nothing came up, CHDK did not work.   I had to put back the files the CHDK needed.  I did that and put back in the DISKBOOT.BIN.  I know that it is the you sent me, I downloaded 2 of them, DISKBOOT.BIN(2) and DISKBOOT.BIN(3).  I made sure the file I copied was DISKBO0T.BIN(2).   I then renamed the file to DISKBOOT.BIN.  I then looked at the menu and it is the same.
David, I wanted to have the remote work, and I applaud your help, but I feel that the .BIN file is not what you thing it is.  This is where the C:\Users\Owner\Downloads file is found. It is downloads.
I feel we are done, thank you for your efforts.

I downloaded 2 of them, DISKBOOT.BIN(2) and DISKBOOT.BIN(3).

I think I know what is happening.
ZShare is renaming a number of files, they could be for any camera.

I have therefore zipped it, this will be correct :-
